Tips On Choosing Your Color Palette

The colors you choose for your wedding day set the style and tone for your entire event. One of our first planning meetings with our Joie de Vie Weddings & Events' couples is to determine the overall aesthetic they would like to have. Think of your color palette as you select your attendants attire, your decor, the cake, favors, flowers, the details, table linens as well as your invitations! Choose colors you love, but also consider the following:
  1. What mood do you want to create? Your colors contribute to the overall mood of your wedding. You want drama? Add vibrant colors. If your leaning more towards romantic, consider soft colors.
  2. Where are you having your ceremony and reception? Choose colors that compliment the setting. Pay attention to existing decor, furniture and the carpeting to ensure they don't clash with the colors you select.
  3. What time of year are you considering for your wedding? The season may also effect the colors you select. There are great resources you can lean on to see what colors will be in season for your wedding.
  4. Are there cultuaral traditions you will need to consider? Color can effect our moods and emotions but they also hold special meaning in different cultures. You may have to include specific colors to various parts of your ceremony, so consdier colors that will compliment that specific color.
Look at various planning web sites for color inspiration! Some of our favorites are:
Souther Weddings Magazine: http://www.swsmag.net/
Brides Online: http://www.brides.com/
All of these web sites offer color pairings as well as the latest trends in selecting your wedding colors.

We also love looking at the Pantone Color Reports for the upcoming season. The reports are what many of your bridal designers use as a palette for the bridesmaids fashions! What are the colors for this coming fall? Well click here, to be redirected to the Fall 2010 report. We also use a great in-house tool that helps our wedding clients help our choose their wedding colors. You simply provide us with your favorite inspiration photo and we can and we upload it into our system to and it will instantly create a color palette for you. As an example look at the photo above. This is the colors we were able to pull out for our clients to select from to create their wedding color palette.as they tried palette we were able to create for the client after she saw the inspiration photo:

The bride and groom will be able to select the 3 or 4 colors from the above palette to define their wedding day. The great part of our tool is it actually provides the code that the graphic designer can use when designing their stationery and printed items.

Until next time,
