Brides Against Breast Cancer 2008 (March 13-15th)

The month of March has been a busy one. Between weddings, a catillion, the Brides Against Breast Cancer (BABC) gown sale and a trip to Jamaica I can honestly say my plate has been full. For the last 3 years I have worked with the Brides Against Breast Cancer Gown Sale in Orlando, Fl. The local chapter of the Association of Bridal Consultants ( took on BABC as its not-for-profit project and we have all enjoyed working with the lovely staff from the Making Memories Foundation ( Our West Central Florida group (Tampa Bay Area) along with our local chapter have hosted a sale annually since 2006. Our first year hosting the event in Orlando we raised $15,000 for Making Memories. In 2007 we raised $31,000 and we were elated that we were able to help such a worthy cause.

2008 was a very different year for us. Our sister chapter in S. Florida hosted the gown sale for the first time. I happened to be working in Boca with a client that week and drove down that Saturday afternoon to give Lori Patterson (our S. Florida LNG Director) a helping hand. Lori and her team organized their sale and raised $17,000 for Making Memories. They had only 2 months to plan their show, I can only imagine what would happen if they had a whole year. Beautiful Reem Acra, Amsale, Lazaro, Oleg Cassini and Vera Wang gowns were on the floor for unbelievable savings. Of course the money is going to a great and wonderful cause, however, I returned to Orlando with a drive and determiniation: we had to raise more than S. Florida (lol). We had 800 dresses that were sure to fit the style and vision of many brides.

Our sale in Orlando started on Thursday night instead of Friday. It was a Sneak Peak event and it was WONDERFUL!!! A private event where ladies had to purchase tickets, they were treated to dinner, a fashion show and a sneak peak of the gowns. We also had our gown raffle winner select her dress that night. Lindsay R. a Valentines 2009 bride won the raffle. Her Aunt had purchased the ticket for her at a bridal show earlier this year. She brought her Mother, Aunt and Grandmother with her to help select any dress in the gown sale. What a beautiful moment when Lindsay found her dress. Her mother cried, grandmother had goosebumps and her aunt kept saying, "beautiful". Over the weekend we raised $32,000. Seventy-eight brides attended the show and 45 found a dress! Between Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale we raised $78,000.
Details from a dress a bride selected.
After 3 days of work, loading 700 gowns on the truck to head to Tampa we ended the weekend the best way: eating! Val Daily, PBC (La Bella Storia) and I take a second to take a photo.
