Orlando Wedding Expo Bridal Show: Our booth was PERFECTION!

We had a great time at the Orlando Wedding Expo this past Sunday at the Orlando Hilton on International Drive.  Our team worked tirelessly to show the couples and their friends and family what can be done creatively in a very limited amount of space.

Many asked how did we develop the concept for our design area?  We thought it would be great to walk you through our steps. Similarly to when we work with our event clients, we try to think of how we want people to feel when they walk into the event.  Our brainstorm ended with what we called the "Edge of Autumn".  We wanted to create an area that:
  1. Popped with great, bright and invigorating colors.
  2. That smelled delicious with vibrant florals.
  3. That played on the metallic colors of Gold, Silver & Bronze (Hey! The Olympics just ended! LOL)

Joie de Vie Weddings & Events - Orlando Based Wedding Planner
We are grateful for a great team of wedding professionals that helped to pull this vision together:

Charger Plates, Flatware, Frames & Furniture/Tables: A Chair Affair
Floral Design: Lee Forrest
Linens: Over The Top Linens
Lighting: CRB Entertainment
Napkin Rings & Drape: Nikun Events
Stationery: Hugs & Bliss

So how did it turn out?  Well, take a look:
Our area at the show was a great location and allowed us to play with the layout so that it caught your attention.  The tables were intentionally placed at an angle to make full use of our 10x20 area and allow brides to be inspired by how they can play with a room when space is limited.

Custom stationery from our stationer, Hugs & Bliss.  This paper had a wood grain texture that was awesome to touch.   Notice the name of the Bride and Groom?  A great play on the television show 'Friends'

Flowers truly brighten up a room!  Our great floral designer, Lee Forrest, always pushes the envelope when it comes to design!  We love that about him and his team!

Our 'Sweetheart Table' and cake table gave us an opportunity to showcase some great linen from Over The Top Linens!  Checkout this great linen against the bright yellow glass chargers from A Chair Affair!

If you are wondering what this would cost for your day, stay tuned!  We also have some more cost effective alternatives!   We have more photos on our Facebook Page.  Feel free to visit and let us know what you think! :)

Real Weddings: Keshara & Marcus | Rosen Shingle Creek

.

Wedding Ceremony - Orlando - Real Wedding - Joie de Vie Wedding - Rosen Shingle Creek - Kirby - Purple - Atmospheres Floral

Keshara and Marcus are probably the funniest and most serious couple we have had the pleasure of working with. They came to us in 2014 and discussed planning options for their wedding. We loved the fact that Keshara was SUPER ORGANIZED and that Marcus wanted the planning to be as stress free for Keshara (which means it would be stress free for him) as possible. All in all, they wanted three things: GOOD FOOD, GOOD MUSIC and LOTS OF DANCING! These two are truly each other's ying and yang.

Custom invitations set the tone of what guests were to expect for the wedding weekend.  The elegant invitations were created by Hugs & Bliss.

Marcus and Keshara met in July 2009 while attending a celebration for her sorority sisters who had just finished taking the Florida Bar Exam. Marcus’ fraternity brother and Keshara were colleagues and he had invited Marcus to come along with some of his fraternity brothers. Marcus and Keshara hit it off immediately. After all, Keshara loved wrestling and football...just like Marcus!

Marcus proposed on Valentine’s Day 2014 and they set their date for May 2015.

Wedding Style: Hollywood Glamour. Keshara found the perfect wedding dress at Calvet Couture Bridal . Her Matron of Honor saw the dress and it became the only dress she tried on. It fit her perfectly.

Words of Wisdom from our newlyweds:
"... enjoy the planning process and don’t sweat the small stuff. We didn’t argue at all during the planning process because we had heard so many horror stories and we knew we didn’t want that to be us. We would also tell couples to not let wedding planning consume your lives; make sure you still go on with your regular daily routines. The planning process is only a snap shot of time and you don’t want to be so consumed with it that you have nothing else to talk about with your spouse once the wedding is over."

Tidbits about their wedding:
Bridesmaid gifts: Alex and Ani gold initial bracelets and Kate Spade luggage tags
Groomsmen gifts: Cuff links, flasks, socks, and pocket squares

First dance song: Toni Terry –When I’m With You

We love this awesome highlight reel that gives us a look at the day.

Planning Tip: A Little Rain Anyone?

Outdoor ceremony at Lake Mary Events Center KWuWeddings Joie De Vie Orlando
Since we're in the middle of hurricane season, most of our recent weddings have had to take into consideration what our "B Plan" will need to be as we get closer to the wedding day. While showers/rain are considered a blessing by most cultures, the thought of having to pull in your meticulously designed outdoor ceremony or reception indoors is not an easy decision.  Fortunately, when working with wedding professionals, like ourselves, your decision making process is sure to be a well though out one long before the wedding day.

Fortunately, because of dopplers, weather app's and the countless other resources, we can calculate by the minute if it will or will not rain.  While we realize the beauty of getting married outdoors or having part of the festivities following your ceremonies outside is the ultimate dream for most of our couples; we realistically plan for the worst because of a shower or rainstorm is not one most of our brides like to have to decide on.

As you are ironing out the details for your outdoor wedding, embrace the fact that you may have to go in.  Here are a few things to remember:
  1. As you look at your ceremony decor, see how it will translate indoors.  Are you using an arbor, gazebo or gate?  Can that be transferred indoors and reused?
  2. If your ceremony location is different than the reception (i.e. the park, beach or other locale), what system do you have in place to communicate the change to your guests?  If you have a wedding web page, this is a great way to relay the message.  Remember to add a note in your invite that encourages them to check the wedding page the morning of the wedding.
  3. Speak to your venue and vendors about when a rain call must be made. The more elaborate your set up and decor, the sooner that call will have to be made.
  4. Consider safety as you make decisions.  Opting to stay outside when there is a thunderstorm looming, is NEVER a good idea.
  5. Remember, it may shower for an instant, but if the ground is soaked, you run a chance of ruining your dress, shoes and your guests shoes.  Depending on how much rain has fallen the ground will need more time to dry up.
Work with your professionals to ensure your "B" plan is as great as your "A" plan!

Real Wedding: Sharonda & Markis - Mission Inn Resort.

We love planning weddings and we love couples that want to plan a unique experience for their guests.  So was the case with our Summer 2011 couple, Sharonda and Markis! They were home for Christmas shortly after their December engagement and contacted us about planning their summer fete for 400 guests.  With budget in hand we set out to plan a great wedding and experience that would fit the taste and high expectation for this National Marketing Manager and National Logistics Manager.

Sharonda and Markis are known for the parties they have thrown.  From the onset the bar was set pretty high as to what guests would expect.  A meticulous attention to detail is always a part of our planning process here at Joie de Vie so when we sat down to make decisions on design, aesthetic and experience for their wedding...it was pretty much decided: Go Big or Go Home!

From the save the date to the invitation, the tone was set and guests excitedly waited for July 30th to arrive.  Below are a few images from their wedding day:

Guests received a saved the date in February that resembled the cover of Jet Magazine.  At the end of May 225 silk pad folio invitations were sent out in lovely silver boxes to formally invite guests to The Mission Inn Resort & Spa for an unforgettable weekend.

The bride's first dress was a beautiful Maggie Sottero gown that she purchased in Maryland.  As we got closer to the wedding day, Sharonda found yet another dress that would be the perfect touch for the reception.

It had to be one of the hottest days in summer!  400 guests looked on as the couple exchange vows in Plaza De La Fontana.

With 400 guests, we worked closely with the sales and catering department at the Mission Inn.  Our couple fell in love with the privacy afforded by the Mission Inn.  We had ceremony outside in the Plaza, cocktail hour in the courtyard area and dinner in the grand ballroom.  Cindy's Creations created beautiful florals within the Persian Plum and Apple Slice palate selected by the couple. Over The Top custom made napkins, linens and chair ties for the entire event.
The cake was designed to resemble the brides ceremony gown.  The couple cut their cake at the end of dinner and guests were invited to the after party room where the cake was served along with other wonderful desserts prepared by The Sugar Suite.

Did we mention there were 64 people in the bridal party?  Yes...64!  Below are 40 of the members in the party.

Elegante Films delivered a great cinematic recap of the day:

We worked with a fantastic team of wedding professionals to ensure EVERY detail for this wedding was unforgettable!  Our team of pros:

Remembering September 11th!

Eleven years have gone by, but it still feels like yesterday!  Today we remember the many heroes and innocent lives lost on  Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

I was still working as a Benefits Consultant and was working in Naples, FL. I for one believe everything in life happens for a reason. Our client was a chain of hotels in Boca Raton and Naples. The clients' Health Insurance Company representative was in Naples instead of the World Trade Center that day because our benefits enrollment was delayed two weeks. His colleague took over his New York schedule that day - an assignment in the World Trade Center. Minutes before the plane struck he realized he had no cash and stepped out of the building to get cash from a nearby bank. That need for cash caused him to not be inside the building when the first plane struck at 8:45 a.m. Just the same, a fellow School of Business Industry graduate walked in for her first day of work in one of the Towers - she was fortunate enough to make it out unharmed. The stories of those who woke up late, got stuck in traffic, decided to call in sick could go on and on...yet sadly many did not have that story to tell.

Many lost their lives that day. Many became heroes that day. They are gone but definitely not forgotten. I've learned that no one is promised tomorrow: We must live, love and enjoy each day with purpose and with no regrets. We must also learn to cherish our family, our friends and our loved ones. Life is too short and quite unpredictable! Let's remember how important we are to each other!

Real Wedding: Joane and Miller - The Estate of John's Lake

Plan a wedding in less than six weeks? Yes we can!

Meet Joane and Miller one of our Spring 2012 couples. We were given the challenge of pulling together a wedding for 60 guests at one of Orlando's newest wedding locales, The Estate of John's Lake! The Estate of Johns Lake has historic roots back as far as 1928. It sits on a sprawling 18 acres surrounded by beautiful oak trees, it's own resident Clydesdale horses, a race horse and beautiful John's Lake! The estate house is perfect for ceremonies and receptions.

This wedding was particularly near and dear as the bride is my niece! The pressure of planning only intensifies when it is a close friend or family member. With the help of an amazing team of wedding professionals we were able to plan the wedding for the bride and groom (who were both overseas) in a small window of time. Below are a few detail shots of the reception space.

We chose Navy, Green and Sedona as our color palette.  Jennifer with Over the Top Linens helped us select linens to match the locale.  Over the Top created two custom linens for our cake table and sweetheart table. We paired that with square tables and gold chiavari's from A Chair Affair.
The ceremony took place at a local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.  Guests were pleasantly surprised as they drove up to the private estate house.  Once the sun set, the beautiful custom lighting from Tagas Events, really set the tone for the reception.

Jennyfer with the Sugar Suite, captured the essence of the night by designing a simple but very elegant cake with custom flowers to match our color palette.

The invitations, which were in French, set the tone for the invited guests.

The day came together in part because of some amazing professionals:

Wedding Cake: The Sugar Suite – Jennyfer Mancino

Lighting: Tagas Event & Production Services
